Eligibility Requirements
To register to vote in Connecticut, you must meet the following criteria:
- Be a U.S. citizen.
- Be a Connecticut resident.
- Be at least 18 years old by the day of the next election.
- If you are 17 years old, you can preregister to vote as long as you will be 18 by Election Day (in 2024, Election Day is on November 5).
Ineligibility
- You cannot register to vote if you are currently serving a prison or jail sentence for a felony conviction.
- You cannot vote if a judge has ruled that you are not able to vote.
Restorative Requirements
- If you have completed a felony prison sentence, you are immediately eligible to register to vote – follow the typical voter registration processes outlined below
- If you were convicted of a felony and incarcerated for a violation of Connecticut election laws (Title 9), you cannot register to vote until you have finished parole and/or probation.

How to Register
There are many ways to register to vote in Connecticut:
- Online
You can register online through the Connecticut Online Voter Registration System. Deadline to register online: 18 days before Election Day
- By Mail
You can download the voter registration form from the Connecticut Secretary of the State, fill it out, and mail it to your local Registrar of Voters. Deadline to register by mail: Your registration must be postmarked 18 days before Election Day.
- In Person
You can register in person up to 18 days before Election Day at:

- Your town clerk or registrar's office.
- Some public assistance offices and motor vehicle offices.
You can register in person on Election Day or during early voting. Your Election Day registration site (sometimes called a “same-day registration site”) may be different from your polling place, so if you’re registering on Election Day, look up your town’s designated same-day registration site and be prepared with any documentation you’ll need.
Identification Requirements
When registering to vote in Connecticut, you should provide one of the following:
- Connecticut Learner's Permit
- Connecticut non-driver ID number
- Connecticut Driver's License Number
- Last Four Digits of your Social Security Number
If you do not have any of the above IDs, you can provide a copy of one of the following:
- Utility bill
- Bank statement
- Government check
- Current and valid photo ID
- Paycheck showing your current name and address
- Government-issued document that shows your current name and address
