IMPACT JOURNALIST IN RESIDENCE, THE CONNECTICUT PROJECT

SUSAN HAIGH

Susan Haigh is the Impact Journalist in Residence at The Connecticut Project, where she uses storytelling and journalism to shine a light on issues affecting people across Connecticut. Sue brings more than three decades of reporting experience to the role, including nearly 24 years with The Associated Press, where she covered Connecticut politics and government as well as national issues. Sue continues to work as a freelance journalist, writing about a range of topics for regional and national publications. Earlier in her career, she reported for The Day of New London and the Norwich Bulletin.

Why do you do “the work?”

I became a reporter because I wanted people to be aware of what was happening in the world around them, especially things they might not otherwise see or know about. I’ve always believed that bringing attention to an issue through fair and unbiased reporting is an important first step toward addressing it. Along with a lot of curiosity about people and how things work, that desire to inform people has kept me interested in journalism all these years.

What are some specific places or things you love in Connecticut?

A longtime resident of southeastern Connecticut, I enjoy taking walks with my husband at beautiful spots like Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford and the Niantic Boardwalk in East Lyme. We’re also big fans of Connecticut’s music scene and frequently attend concerts at Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods, as well as the Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater in Bridgeport.
