When you receive SNAP might change March 1

A new state law will change when people get benefits

The day of the month your SNAP benefits will become available to you is likely about to change.

Starting March 1, SNAP benefits will be loaded onto EBT cards during the first eight days of the month, instead of the first three days of the month like it is now. This happened because of a state law that benefits have to be spread out.

When you receive your SNAP benefits will depend on your client ID, instead of the first letter of your last name. The state has more information online.

Waiting an extra week or more to receive help with buying food in March could be stressful – especially when benefits might not last you an entire month already – and planning ahead for the change can only get you so far. If you need food, find a local food pantry or mutual aid organization to cover the gap.

Tens of thousands of people in Connecticut are at risk of losing SNAP because of federal budget cuts. Take action and tell your lawmakers to protect SNAP.
